Local Photography Courses

Photography is an incredibly rewarding hobby. Attending a photography course can help you get to grips with the many technical skills involved in photography but also help you develop the creative techniques that help to make a great photograph.

On this site you will be able to:

With the advent of digital photography, the amateur photographer has full control over of the image making process: from the point the image is taken through to editing in software and then printing on a desktop printer.  You no longer need expensive equipment to produce stunning images – you just need the dedication and practice to develop your passion.

There are many types of photography courses available:

Landscape Photography Courses

Landscape photography is one of the most popular forms of photography.  Anyone who likes the outdoors and finds beauty in nature is bound to be drawn to this art form.

Great landscape images are mostly taken in the “golden” hours around sunrise and sunset.

This is where the colours of a landscape are best illuminated by the golden light of the sun.  In comparison, photographs taken at midday often appear bleached out by the strong sunlight.

Landscape photography can also include architectural or urban photography – particularly so in cities where the architecture is particularly interesting.

Portrait Photography

Portrait photography is quite different to landscape photography, although the two can be combined as anyone who has seen “on location” portraits will know.  The key to great portraits is the subtlety of lighting – either natural or produced by studio lights.

Portrait photography has a potential commercial application as one could set up their own portrait studio for family or pet portraits.

Wedding Photography

Wedding photography requires many skills. Unlike portrait photography where the photographer can create a controlled environment within a studio, the wedding photographer has to work with the lighting and environment they find themselves in

A good wedding photography is obviously technically proficient but they must also be very good at directing people without coming over as bossy or obtrusive.

Some useful resources

Amateur Photographer - an excellent weekly magazine that includes lots of tips and tricks to help you improve your photography.

Wildlife Photography

Wildlife photography will appeal to anyone with an appreciation of the natural world.  A lot of patience is required by wildlife photographers as they may spend hours waiting to get the photograph they are after.

Expensive lenses are normally required to zoom in on wildlife from a distance and a “hide” might also be a good investment if you want to camouflage yourself.
